JAIPUR
The following morning we woke early and made our way down to breakfast before clambering aboard our coach. The coach is comfortable and cool and we're warned it's a long drive. I decided to put headphones on and listen to music.
After an hour or so of driving we stopped at a roadside cafe for lunch. I wasn't impressed.

Raj Putana Hotel, Jaipur
This was a very nice hotel and a shame we were only here two nights. We rested for a short while before going out with a small group to go 'shopping' which turned out to be in one pre-arranged place! A carpet factory.
And yes, I'm the typical tourist who is swayed by a good salesman! I bought a beautiful blue cashmere carpet. Loadsa money but I think it is a bargain and anyway, it is so beautiful, I don't care. I also bought or rather, ordered, a hand made shirt for my mate Tony who looked after our cats whilst we were away and Jo bought a very expensive silk pashmina. But, we felt good that we were contributing to the guys who made these goods. Their skills are definitely to be admired and makes more of a mockery of how we in the West take things we can buy, for granted. I bet the carpet, pashmina and shirt are all made in some sweat shop somewhere. |
